What Are You Waiting For?


“I want to be more adventurous.”

“Why don’t I ever have time for____?”

“I wish my life wasn’t so stressful.”


I’ve wasted a lot of time on things that aren’t important. Hop on the computer, get distracted by something, and then accidentally spend half the day researching something or watching TV.  I’ve said “Yes” to things that I don’t really have time for, and said “Yes” to things that drain my energy and emotions. Until I wake up and find myself wondering where my week went.  Wondering why I can’t seem to make time for things that are important to me, my family, and my long-term goals.

But here’s some truth: We only get one chance at this life.

One chance to go after what lights you up inside. To go chase your OWN kind of Wonderment, to follow the dreams that God has put deep inside your soul.


Maybe that looks like a life filled with travel, adventures, and experiencing new cultures. Perhaps it’s a quiet life, with rest being at the center of all your choices. Or maybe it’s a life of creativity and wonder, exploring new ideas and crazy inventions. This life is actually pretty short (especially if you hold it up against eternity). So why wait to live an amazingly full life?


One Day, or Day One: You Decide


Here’s the thing: There comes a point where you have to make a choice. You can choose to stay stuck where you are. Longing for something different, something better. Sometimes you’re unwilling to make the change, or maybe too stubborn to get out of your own way. Other times you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, even though it’s super close by. It’s right around the corner. Maybe you need to turn off Netflix, and actually write down that bucket list.

Because, really: the only thing holding you back from chasing those big, exciting dreams down is YOU. You can go on adventures NOW. You can live fully right here. Chase that evening sunset. Enjoy a quiet night at home with your pup and your knitting.

So how can you start living right now?


➢ Clarify it:

Grab your journal or a piece of blank paper. Write down what you most want your life to be.(in DETAIL!) Do your days look empty, or busy? Is there lots of space for adventures, or naps? Do you love your job, or would you love a change of pace? Are there aspects of your journey that you want to embrace more? Things you never make time for?

➢ Stop Procrastinating:

It seems like a far-off (crazy) dream or idea… so why push hard for it? Newsflash: It will NEVER happen if you do nothing. I’ve wasted time, put off my big dreams, and done nothing because “It’s not going to happen any time soon.” Don’t waste another second living a life you’re not in love with.

➢ Take Baby Steps:

What small step can you take today? You probably can’t just quit your job… but you can take a step towards it by searching for your dream position. You can think about downsizing your home so you have less expenses. Or maybe pick up extra work so you can bank money for that next adventure. You can’t change everything in your life at once, but you CAN start taking baby steps towards those big dreams.

➢ Change is Possible:

Sometimes it’s hard to take the leap and imagine a different life. You don’t see any way to minimize stress, so you keep trudging away where you’re at. If you don’t let yourself hope for something different, you’ll never be willing to try something new that might end up changing your life! Don’t let anyone tell you your dreams aren’t possible.

➢ It Can Work: 

You might have tried a LOT of different things to make changes in your life. They might have failed. Let me tell you: You only fail when you QUIT. It only took Thomas Edison 1,000 tries before he made a working light bulb. If you’ve put in 20 applications to your dream job, don’t stop! You might hear the news you’ve been waiting for on your 26th try. And… even if you don’t: would you rather work hard for something you want, or sit on the sidelines? 

So… START. Today.

Don’t let another day go by without at least trying. Take a baby step. Turn off the TV and go for a drive. Go find a second job. Start writing. Create that business plan. Who knows… maybe you’ll wake up tomorrow and realize that you’re finally living the life you’ve always wanted.
