Do you want to Journal? Here’s How to Let Go of Perfectionism and Start Writing.
Have you ever thought about journaling, only to get frustrated, because you had to scribble out a line or you spelled a word the wrong way? It’s normal to want your journal to be “perfect” — Here’s how to let go of perfectionism and START WRITING!
Back in my early journaling days (when the teenage-angst was at an all-time high 🤣) when I started journaling, I would spend hours writing in my journal, trying to make my cursive absolutely PERFECT. I would get SO frustrated when I made a mistake! I ripped out pages, and scribbled out whole sentences.
If you struggle with perfectionism like me, it can be really hard to break that cycle. Believe me when I say: It is SO freeing to let go of “perfect” and just let journaling be fun!
Here’s How to Let Go of Perfectionism and Start Writing:
Remember that a messy journal is still a journal!
If you struggle with perfectionism, then you might be telling yourself that your mistakes are “wrong.” But here’s the thing: if you’re assuming that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to journal, you’re assigning morality to it. There is NO right or wrong way to journal!
Remember that you get to make the rules!
Because there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to journal, you get to make the rules! You can have no rules, or create a few rules to give you some journaling boundaries. Inside The Wonder of Journaling, I show you how to create a few parameters to kick perfectionism out of your journaling practice.
Remember that it’s YOUR journal — not mine!
I’ve had SO MANY people tell me “My journal doesn’t look like yours!” or “My handwriting isn’t as pretty as yours!” My response? “Um… that’s the whole point!” It’s not supposed to look like mine, or like that gorgeous account you follow on Instagram. It’s supposed to look like YOURS! (The only way you’ll ever find your own style — and appreciate it — is to let it be your style.)
