How the Minimalism Lifestyle could Change your Life.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the clutter in your house? If it feels like no matter HOW hard you try, you’re constantly moving piles of stuff from one place to another… Keep reading to find out how the Minimalism Lifestyle could change your life.
When I first started learning about minimalism, I was DESPERATE. I felt like I was constantly battling clutter. It seemed like, no matter how hard I tried, there was always more to clean up. 😩 Our kids had just hit the toddler-stage, too… there were toys EVERYWHERE. It was so overwhelming.
I’ll never forget when I found a blog post written by Allie Casazza — a Mom who had been in the same boat. It felt like she was looking at my house (and in my heart!) as she shared her story of being overwhelmed by the stuff in her home — and how exhausting it was trying to keep it all clean. She wrote about the moment where she just couldn’t take it any more… and she started clearing all the extra clutter.
For the first time in a long time, I felt HOPE. There were other women like me — women who felt like they were drowning in clutter, but who didn’t want to stay there! (click here to read the blog — it’s amazing!) I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but the idea of less toys sounded amazing.

Over the next few days, I watched my kids. They’d pull out EVERY toy they owned, switch between them, and then complain that they wanted to do something else. So I decided to try an experiment:
I took all the toys away except ONE set.
The next day, they woke up, saw the basket of toys, and joyfully started playing. AND THEY PLAYED. They played with one set of toys for HOURS. I couldn’t believe it! They weren’t whining non-stop, and I had such a great day because they weren’t constantly needy and asking for something else. I was hooked.
Here’s How the Minimalism Lifestyle could Change your Life:
Minimalism eases Decision Fatigue.
Did you know that your brain gets tired of making decisions? The more you have to make, the harder it gets for your brain to process information. And that’s called “Decision Fatigue.”
So… how many things do have laying around your house, just waiting for a decision to be made? YEAH… it used to overwhelm me, too. Having less stuff around means fewer decisions need to be made. It will get easier and easier to put away!
(Please hear me: I still have crap on my counters. 😆 But it’s MUCH easier to make decisions since there’s less stuff to put away!)
Minimalism brings more Peace.
I’ve heard it said that “A Cluttered House is the sign of a Cluttered Mind,” and it’s TRUE. I’ve found that when my brain feels cluttered, it starts to show up in our home. (And, vice-versa; if my house gets too cluttered my brain feels cluttered, too!)
The more simple your stuff is, the more peaceful you feel. Just clearing off a counter-top or putting away a few toys can make such a huge difference in the way you feel. (Try it!)
Minimalism saves you Time.
When I started simplifying my life, I had no clue how much time it would save me. Seriously; when you have less STUFF, you spend less time cleaning it. And picking it up. And finding a place for it. A moving it from the kitchen counter, to the table, and back again.
For instance, I minimized our dishes. We only have easy-access to the dishes we use on a daily basis: 4 large plates, 4 bowls, 2 large bowls, etc. It sounds crazy, but it works! Because I only keep a day's worth of dishes, my sink doesn't pile up. (And I have to wash them or we can't eat! 😆)
*In case you're worried, we still have our other dishes — they're just at the back of the cupboard where it's really hard to reach. 😏
As I kept chasing simplicity, minimalism began to bring peace to so many areas of my life. The more I got rid of, the less overwhelmed I felt. My hubby began noticing a change in me. Our home felt welcoming and peaceful.
Minimalism has become a way of life for me and my family, and it’s affected every area of our life — in the best way.
