House Tour of our (tiny) Debt Free Home!
When Alex and I got married, we had this crazy idea: What if we could buy, renovate, and decorate our first home — DEBT-FREE? Yeah, we knew it was crazy, and also, probably impossible. But what can I say? We like to do things the hard way. ( Just to prove that we can. 😂 ) Here’s Part 4; a house tour of our (tiny) debt-free home!
This house has been a labor of love. It's been four years in the making… and then some. We've STILL got some unfinished things in the house — because, we're BUSY! (In fact… we just added a few final touches to the kitchen for these photos.)
I couldn't be more proud of this space. Even though it's small, our home is just right for us. It's been worth all the hard work — and I'm so proud of Alex for pressing on through this incredible labor of love. 😍
Again… For the record: we did this ENTIRE project on ONE income. We scrimped, saved, and scrimped some more. (Well, except maybe when it comes to my love for good coffee. 😬) Pretty much all the decor and furniture in here we've either made, bought second-hand, or been gifted. ❤️ Without further ado…
Welcome to our little home. 😍
Our entryway. Our friends enter through the side door, so I thought I'd welcome you here, too. ☺️ It's our mudroom, my craft room, the office, and the laundry room combined. This is tiny-house living, y'all. 😂
(this is also the most unfinished room in the house — we haven't had the time to pull the appliances and furniture out to paint all the trim! 😜)
Welcome to the kitchen! This room is just 😍. Alex built the kitchen cabinets from scratch. I just finished those curtains below the kitchen sink, and I am relieved to say that I finally have cabinet handles & knobs. 😂 The range hood has been repainted after a friend bought it for us from a sale!
This window is my FAV. 😍 I've got it filled with succulents, and it's wonderful to look out while I wash the dishes.
Our pantry cupboard is from my Mom — this used to hold my school books when I was a kid! 😆
Now let's move on to the living room… and, YES, my piano takes up 1/3 of the room. Priorities, people! 😂 We bought our couch used (from our church!) and I added a slip cover to give it an update.
View of the eating nook. I love my letter board (a gift from my Mom!).
The other side of our living room - I love the gallery wall that's slowly growing above the bookshelf.
This mantel is EVERYTHING. 😍 Alex built the whole thing, and it's AMAZING. I love the detail of the tin panels (salvaged from a ceiling in an old house), and that he used an antique (salvaged!) porch post for the sides of the mantel.
The hallway! I love this tiny gallery — I painted our family silhouettes in 2016 when we moved in. 😍
The master bedroom (first door to the left in the hallway).
Our bedroom set was Alex's grandparents. We are so blessed to have such beautiful heirlooms! 😍
This room is also FULL of more craft supplies. 😂 When you live in a small house you' have to get creative with your storage!
Our closet — one of the quirks of old houses means that there are no closets — so open concept it is. ☺️ This antique clothing rack was Alex’s grandparent’s!
Next up.. the kid's room! The bunk bed is from Ikea, and Alex actually cut it down so it isn't so tall. ( I was worried that the kids would fall out of the top bunk.) We've not regretted cutting it down ONCE — it's nice to have a safer height for younger kids.
Tiny house living means no closet for the kids, either… I bought their dresser at an antique store before I was married. We basically just stuff as many toys as we can into this corner. 😂 (Plus, we have a VERY minimal toy collection!)
Heading out of the kid's bedroom you'll see the ONE closet in the house— a snug little linen closet in the hallway. 😊
Alright… we're heading to the last room in the house — our little tiny bathroom! I'm in LOVE with the clawfoot tub. It's the BEST for soaking with epsom salts and some essential oils. 😍
We went with an anchor theme in the bathroom, and I love these anchor towels hooks we found! Alex made ALL the wainscoting and the cabinet from the wood flooring we salvaged.
And that's it! 4 people, 750 sq. ft… our tiny, debt-free home. 😍
