You might have too much mental load
You might be feeling the shift of seasons
You might be putting too much pressure on yourself
You might be trying to figure out how to do ALL THE THINGS at the same time.

What when you’re feeling “lost” in life:
First up, when you’re feeling lost:
Try the 5 Why’s Exercise!
The “5 Why’s” Exercise is designed to help you uncover the deeper roots of your thoughts & feelings. First, write the question, “What is causing me to feel lost?”, or something like that. Then, write “Why,” and answer it. Ask yourself “Why” several times — until you find the root.
Believe me, you’ll know — you’ll have a mind blown moment 🤯, or maybe even a physical reaction! This exercise is helpful, because once you find the root, you’ll have more clarity of what’s causing the issue, and what to do about it.
Are you in a season of transition?
Do some Clarity and Vision Casting!
This is just sitting down with a journal (or a note in your phone), and getting clear on where you’re at right now, and where you want to go. Ask yourself questions like, “What is working, and what isn’t?” and, “Where do I want to go next, and who do I need to be to get there?”
This exercise is helpful because it’s like turning on a lightbulb in your life. Once you get clear on where you’re at that “lost” feeling gives way to more understanding.
You might have too much mental load.
Do a Brain Dump!
Grab a piece of paper and write down everything that you’re thinking about. There is NO wrong way to do this! You may end up with half a grocery list, something that annoyed you the other day, 10 to-do’s, and some things you’ve been avoiding.
This exercise is helpful, because your brain was never meant to be a filing cabinet — It’s not supposed to hold every thought you have! It’s actually designed to process information, so that you DO something with each thought. So… quit keeping all the thoughts stuffed in there, and get ‘em out!
You might be feeling the shift of seasons.
Consider shifting your energy & focus.
It’s normal to feel lost when you experience a shift in seasons, like autumn to winter. Or, even, a shift from mothering smaller kids to having older kids. Think about how you WANT to feel moving forward, and brainstorm 5 ways you can create that feeling.
You might be putting too much pressure on yourself.
Ask what’s feeling complicated, and why!
If you’re a high-achiever, and you have big dreams, there’s a good chance you’ve got a LOT of stuff you want to do, and you want to do it NOW. That’s a whole lotta pressure! Ask yourself “What’s feeling complicated?” and then write a list of all the things that are creating these feelings. (Or, use the 5 Why’s exercise again!)
This exercise is helpful because, again, it’s like turning on a lightbulb. Using this exercise helps you get out of your head and find more clarity, so that you can pick the next best thing to do!
You might be trying to figure out how to do ALL THE THINGS at the same time.
Get honest with yourself.
Again, if you’ve got a lot on your plate, there’s a good chance you’re feeling lost because you’re thinking of ALL your to-do’s at the same time. (My hubby lovingly calls this “snowballing,” and I am the queen of it. 😆) This exercise is similar to the last, but you’re going to take a step deeper… Once you get everything out of your head, get really honest with yourself. Can you ACTUALLY do all these things?
This exercise helps you to get clear and honest with yourself about what you’re really capable of, and what you can actually handle. It also helps you simplify! What can you take off your list? What commitments do you need to find an end-date for? What can you off-load, or spend time brainstorming some solutions for?
After you’ve done one (or a few!) of these exercises, you might find that it’s brought up a LOT of struggles, and make things really clear. This is a good time to evaluate, and see if there are any areas where you need to re-think. I promise you; it’s WORTH the time spent.
For example: I’ve REALLY struggled with planning and cooking meals. It’s taken a TON of brain space and energy for me to create meals that our family loves — and then I’d forget some ingredients. 🙄 I spent about 45 minutes researching different options, and finally found something that I thought I’d try out… And guess what? It’s been AMAZING!

It’s usually worth time spent figuring out how you to make shifts and changes in your life, because what you uncover saves you SO much time in the long run.
